Resist the devil
Children's sermon
Object:
two magnets
Good morning! Does anybody know what these are? (Show the
magnets and let them answer.) Yes, these are magnets. Now, I want
you to notice that when I place these two magnets next to each
other they stick to each other. (Place the magnets together so
that they attract each other.) But, notice what happens if I
reverse this and put the other ends together. (Place the magnets
so that they repel each other.) See how they jump apart. You can
do either one with these magnets. In one arrangement they attract
each other and in the other they repel each other.
I showed you that because, in a way, you and I are like
those magnets when it comes to sin. When the devil tempts us to
sin and we give in to it, we are like the magnets when they
attract each other. But, when we fight against the temptation, we
are like the magnets when they repel each other. The Bible tells
us that if we resist the devil he will run away from us. So what
do you think we should do when the devil tempts us to do
something bad? (Let them answer.) Yes, of course. We should fight
against him. And it's important to remember that God will not let
us fight against him alone. God promises to help us fight the
devil.
Let's thank God for His promise.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for keeping all Your
promises. We thank You for helping us resist the devil so that he
will run away from us. Amen.
