Running shoes
Good morning! This morning I brought some running shoes to show how we are to live our Christian lives. How many of you like to run? (Let them answer.) Have you ever run very far and got so tired that it felt like you couldn't run any more? I surely have! You breathe hard and sometimes your side hurts and it feels like you just can't run any more.
Sometimes life can feel like that. Sometimes you can get so upset at things and people and you wonder how you can keep on going. You want to just go in a corner and curl up and let the world pass by you. The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us that we should keep on going in our Christian lives. We are to keep running and running -- even though we get tired and wonder if we will ever make it.
The word used here is the wonderful word perseverance. I say it is a wonderful word because many times people don't have patience to keep on doing something even though they are very tired. But perseverance means keeping on keeping on! We do that with our faith because we have a lot of encouragement. Your teachers, parents, and fellow members of this congregation want the best for you. The best for you is a life of faith in Jesus. You have that and I hope that continues to grow in you.
