"Safe in his hands"
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Our children have a great need to feel
safe and secure. As parents and teachers we try to provide an
environment where they do feel safe, cared for, loved, and secure.
This Gospel message gives us an opportunity to show them that, as
children of God, they have a loving Father in heaven who will keep
them safe and secure.
*Have the biggest, strongest person (teacher or parent) hold
the smallest, weakest child in his or her arms. Let the other
children try to take the child away from the adult. After they
have tried and failed, talk to them about how God will not let
anyone snatch them away from him either.
*Play a game of tag with an adult being the "safe base." They
can run about the room and be tagged unless they are touching the
"base." When they have had a chance to play for a while, discuss
with them how God provides that "safe base" for us. If we run away
from him and don't stay in touch, we are vulnerable to the devil's
temptations and our own sinful nature.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Ask the children to name the safest places they know, places
where they feel completely safe and secure. List these places on
the board. When the list is completed, add "In God's hands." Talk
about why we are safe in God's arms.
