Scroll of the Lord
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: This week's lesson tells about Jesus launching his
ministry in his hometown. He did this by reading from the scroll
of Isaiah. Tell your students the story and explain what a scroll
is. Then give each student an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. The
students will make their own scrolls.
Depending on the age of your students, have them write a verse from today's lesson on the sheet of paper, which will become their scroll. They could write "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me," or, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor" (Luke 4:18).
After students write the verse have them decorate their sheet. Then help them to roll their scrolls from the top and bottom edge of the sheet toward the middle of the sheet. Have a rubber band or short ribbon ready to place around their scrolls.
Parents: Your child learned about Jesus launching his ministry and reading from the scroll of Isaiah. Your child made his own scroll. Help him make other scrolls using other verses that you are familiar with.
