The see-through wrap
Children's sermon

plastic wrap
Good morning, boy sand girls. I brought some ordinary plastic wrap this morning. There are many ways we can use plastic wrap. Let's see how many ways we can think of. (let them see how many they can think of. Your answers might be some of the following) You can wrap sandwiches and cookies in it for your lunch. You can put it over leftovers in a bowl. You can wrap stuff to keep smells in. You can cover hot pudding with it so it doesn't get hard on top. You can use it for artwork by covering pictures with it and taping it on the back. You can wrap wet washcloths in it for a picnic. You can wrap it around cheese or meat to keep it fresh. That's a lot of ways to use plastic wrap. What makes plastic wrap and regular wrapping paper different? (let them answer) Regular wrapping paper you can't see through and plastic wrap you can. Whatever is inside or under the plastic wrap, you can see right through it just like it wasn't there. If you wanted to hide something, you wouldn't hide it by wrapping it with plastic wrap.
Our lesson today is about a person who tried to hide who he really was. (briefly tell the story of Judas' reaction to Mary's perfume) But Jesus saw right through him to his true feelings. Judas couldn't pretend with Jesus. It was like his thoughts were only covered with plastic wrap because Jesus could tell what he was really thinking. Jesus knew Judas wasn't telling how he really felt. Sometimes we'd like to hide our true feelings. But we can't hide from God. God knows our thoughts. Just as though I were covered in plastic wrap, God sees through all my pretending to the real me.
