Seeing Jesus
Children's sermon
Object:
a Bible
Good morning! Can anybody tell me what we are celebrating
today? (Let them answer.) Yes, today is Easter, and we celebrate
this day because it was on this day nearly 2,000 years ago that
Jesus was raised from the dead. On that day, one of his friends
named Mary went to his tomb and found it empty. She thought at
first that somebody had taken the body away, and she was very
sad. But then Jesus appeared to her, and she knew he had risen
from the dead. Do you think she was happy about that? (Let them
answer.) Yes, of course she was very happy, and she went to his
other friends right away and told them that she had seen Jesus.
Now, I'm sure all of you would also like to see Jesus, not
just a picture of him, but really see him like Mary did. That
probably won't happen, but there is a way we can all see Jesus if
we look for him. Where can we find Jesus today? (Let them
answer.) Yes, he is always with us, but really to see Jesus we
need to look in here. (Show the Bible.) This is where we see
Jesus today, right here in this Bible. When we open the Bible and
read it, we are really seeing Jesus, because the Bible is God's
Word and Jesus is often called the Living Word of God. Even the
parts of the Bible that don't even mention Jesus by name are
still part of him.
Let's thank Jesus for being here with us today.
Dear Jesus: We are so glad that you were raised from the dead on
that first Easter morning. We thank you for promising to be with
us always. Help us to see you clearly in our Bible. Amen.
