Seeing Jesus as he is
Children's sermon
Object:
a Bible
Good morning! In the gospel reading we heard about a really
wonderful event. (In words that they can understand, tell them
about the transfiguration event on the mountain.)
Now do you think Peter and James and John were thrilled
when they saw Jesus up on that mountain as he was transfigured
before their very eyes? Would you like to be able to see Jesus as
he really is in all his glory? (Let them answer.) We can't see
Jesus the way Peter and James and John saw him up on that
mountain, but we can see Jesus whenever we want to. Where would
you go to see Jesus? (Let them answer.)
Here is where we can see Jesus. (Show them the Bible.) As
we open the Bible and read it, we are seeing Jesus because the
Bible tells us everything we need to know about him. How many of
you have your very own Bible? (Let them answer.) It's very nice
to have your own Bible, but even if you don't have your own,
where can you get a Bible to read or have it read to you? (Let
them answer.) Yes, there are lots of Bibles around and all of
them talk about Jesus. Let's thank God for giving us the Bible so
that we can see Jesus in it.
Dear Father in Heaven: Thank You for giving us the Bible so that
we can see Jesus whenever we want to open it. Amen.
