Children's sermon
Object:
some dominoes and a folded piece of paper with "Jesus loves you" on it
Good morning, children! Have you ever made a chain of dominoes? You know, when you stand a bunch of dominoes in a line and then knock them over? (demonstrate with a few) I think that's cool. Each one causes the next one to fall. All you need to do is start the chain by knocking the first one over. If you don't push the first one down, the last one won't fall either. In today's reading we learn that spreading the message of God's love is like that. Let's demonstrate this. (hold up your paper) I have an important message written on this paper. I'll pass it to one of you. You read it and then pass it to the next person. We'll keep passing it and passing it until it gets to the last person. Got it? Okay, let's do it. (pass the paper until it gets to the last person; when it gets there, ask that person to read the paper out loud)
The important message is "Jesus loves you." Just like a string of dominoes, that message wouldn't have gotten to the end unless I had sent the message first. I did my part and each of you continued to share until the message spread around to everyone. God wants everyone to believe in him, but people can't believe in him unless they hear about him. The problem is that people can't hear about him if we don't tell them about him.
In our lesson today, Paul tells us how important it is to share the Good News with others. God asks us to go share his stories with others so that they can believe in him too. Paul tells us that we are special and blessed when we share God's stories with others. God needs us to spread the word so that others may believe. When they hear and believe, those people can spread the word too. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Let's spread that message everywhere we go.
Prayer: God, help us do our part to share your love. Amen.
