From sin to salvation
Children's sermon
Object:
a chalkboard, one piece of chalk, and a good, clean eraser
Good morning, boys and girls. Let's see how well you remember your Bible stories. Who was the first man created by God? (let them answer) That's right, his name was Adam. Do you remember the name of the first woman? (let them answer) Very good, it was Eve. Who did God share the Ten Commandments with on a mountain? (let them answer) It was Moses. What's the name of the person we call Savior? (let them answer) Correct, it's Jesus!
Now I want you to think very hard and tell me the name of the man who committed the first sin. (Let them answer; write the name "Adam" slowly on the chalkboard) The first man created by God was Adam and the first man to commit a sin was Adam. Sin is something we are all born with and it causes us to do bad things like lie, be selfish, and even steal from other people. When I write Adam's name on the chalkboard as a sinner, I can also add my name and your name and the names of everyone else in the world.
We are all sinners and it all began with one man. When Adam sinned, he separated himself from God. Without God, he began to act in a very selfish way, always thinking of himself first rather than God. Adam committed first one sin and then another and pretty soon all of the other people in the world began to sin. At last the world was filled with sinners.
Now we need to discover who made things right with God so that we could one day join him in his kingdom. Does anyone know who made it so that we could be forgiven for our sins and be blessed by God forever? (Let them answer; begin to write the name "Jesus" on the chalkboard) Right, it was Jesus! Jesus came into the world to get rid of sin so that we wouldn't be separated from God again. Jesus forgives and saves people like you and me and all the other people who trust him and believe in him. So one man brought sin and one man brought salvation. Adam brought sin and Jesus brought us a new relationship with God.
This is why Jesus is important to us. Jesus brings us light instead of darkness, the truth rather than lies, honesty rather than cheating, and love rather than hate. And when we do sin and say how sorry we are for the sin, Jesus forgives us and brings us back to God. Jesus is the Savior.
