Slow to believe
Children's Activity
Object:
After the resurrection of Jesus -- but before it was known -- two of his followers were walking along a road. They were sad about the crucifixion and mourning that their friend was gone. Jesus joined them on the road, but they did not recognize him. He challenged their lack of belief in the resurrection. Didn't the prophecies say that the Messiah would be brought back from the dead? Why, then, didn't they believe them? Jesus tells them that they are slow to believe.
Are we slow to believe? How many of God's promises do we accept as truth and how many do we refuse to believe? This week, consider some of the promises that have been given us in scripture. Each day, share a promise with your family. Help each other look for evidence of the promise in your lives. Ask each other where you are slow to believe and need reassurance that God's promises are true. By sharing with one another, you can help each other claim the promises and move away from being slow to believe. Here are seven scripture references for you to consider this week:
Sunday: Matthew 18:20
Monday: John 14:18
Tuesday: Zephaniah 3:17
Wednesday: John 10:27-29
Thursday: Psalm 23:6
Friday: John 6:35
Saturday: Romans 8:38, 39
