Solving our differences
Children's sermon
Object:
a newspaper clipping about a dispute between two parties
Good morning! Have you ever noticed how many stories are in
the paper about people fighting with each other about things?
Here is an example from the paper where ... (Explain the story to
them.)
Have any of you ever had a problem with another person, a
friend, or a relative? (Let them answer.) How did you go about
solving the problem? (If nobody volunteers an answer, ask.) How
do you think you should solve a problem between yourself and
another person if you have one? (Let them answer.)
The Bible tells us how we should try to resolve our problems
with each other so that we don't have to get involved in public
arguments like these people are doing. The most important thing
we need to do is go to the person and talk with him or her about
it. Usually, if we talk it over with the other person we can
resolve the problem. Most of the time, when people get mad at
each other about something, it's because they don't talk about it
together. Do you think we should do what the Bible tells us to do
when somebody does something that hurts us? Should we go to them
and talk it over alone? (Let them answer.) Yes, I think that
would be a good idea, and I hope you will all remember that this
is the way to solve problems. Let's ask God to help us remember
to do that.
Dear Father in Heaven: Please help us remember that we should try
very hard to solve our problems by speaking to the person who may
have hurt us and working out our differences instead of fighting
with each other. Please bless us with the patience to do that.
Amen.
