Sometimes it's hard to be strong!
Children's Activity
Object:
To illustrate today's Gospel reading, discuss with the
children what they think temptation is. Temptation is a difficult
word to define, but everyone knows what it feels like. Ask the
children to tell you about some times when they have felt
tempted. What did they do when they were tempted? Was it hard to
be strong? Did they break the rule and give in or did they resist
the urge?
It is helpful to recognize that people are tempted in
different ways and by different things. For example, stealing may
be a real temptation for one person while not being particularly
difficult for another. Ask the children to share the kinds of
things that are tough for them. You might also ask the children
to talk about what they do to stay strong. We all have different
ways of coping with temptation, and some of us find it easier
than others.
By sharing with each other, the children can learn that
temptation is common to all people and something each of us must
learn how to handle. It's easy to believe that we are alone
struggling with our weaknesses -- how wonderful to know that we
are all in this together!
