Son of God
Children's sermon
Object:
a doll
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like to play
with dolls, or like to play with stuffed animals? (Let them
answer.) I brought a doll with me this morning. I want to tell
you a story about this doll. This doll was the favorite doll of a
girl about your age. She named the doll (give it a name).
Whenever she played with her dolls, this was the most important
doll. (Name of doll) had many family members. She had a mother
and a father. She had sisters and brothers. She even had
grandmother and grandfather dolls. Even though there were other
dolls in the family, this doll still remained the most important
to the girl.
When she would play with the dolls sometimes she would explain how everyone was related to the other dolls. This doll (hold up the doll) was a descendent of the mother and father and grandmother and grandfather dolls. The word descendent means that she came from these other dolls. Like this doll, each of us is a descendent from our parents and our grandparents.
This story reminds me of this morning's lesson. In the lesson we learn that Jesus was a descendent of someone. The name of that person was David. When Jesus lived on the earth as a man, it was important if you could say that you were a descendent of David. David was once a very important king. Our lesson tells us something else that is very important about Jesus. He was not only a descendent of David. He was declared to be the Son of God!
The next time you are playing with your dolls or your toys or other stuffed animals remember Jesus. Just as your dolls have mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers, Jesus does also. Jesus is the Son of God. The Bible tells us this.
Thank you for coming this morning.
