Children's sermon
Object:
a newsmagazine article about a famous person
Good morning! Have any of you ever met _______________?
(Name the person in the article.) I haven't either, but I have
read this article about him/her in this magazine. (Show the
magazine.) Now that I have read the article, I know a lot more
about him/her than I did before. Someday, I might get a chance to
meet this person, but until I do I have to rely on what I can
find out by reading about him/her.
Have any of you ever met God in person? (Let them answer.)
No, of course we haven't, but we can also read about God, can't
we? What can we read that will tell us about God? (Let them
answer.) Yes, we can read the Bible, and we can also listen to
people who tell us about God. When I preach a sermon here in the
church, will I be talking about God? (Let them answer.) Yes, I
will, so there are lots of ways for us to find out things about
God even though we haven't actually seen Him.
When Jesus was living in the world as a man, he told the
people about God. They didn't have magazines or newspapers in
those days, but they could listen to Jesus and he told them about
God. And we have the Bible to tell us all about Jesus and what he
did to let everyone know what they needed to know about God and
how they could get to Heaven by believing in him. Let's thank God
for sending Jesus into the world to tell us what we need to know
about God.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You so much for sending Jesus
into the world to tell us about You. We look forward to meeting
You in person when we get to Heaven, but in the meantime, we are
glad that we have the Bible to tell us about You and Jesus. Amen.
