The Spirit is like the wind
Children's Activity
Object:
Materials:
Construction paper or other heavy paper (the more colorful the better)
Hole punch
Scotch tape
Crepe paper
Yarn or heavy string
Paint, markers, or crayons
Stickers
Directions:
Give the children each a piece of construction paper. Have each child paint and/or decorate with stickers one side of the paper. Then have each child roll their piece of paper into a cylindrical shape (with the decorations on the outside) and tape in place securely. Using a hole punch, punch four holes in the top edge of the cylinder at equal intervals. Give the children each two equal lengths of yarn or heavy string and have them insert one end of one of the strings into a hole and tie a knot in it to keep it from coming loose. Then have them tie the other end of that string into the hole on the opposite side of the cylinder and secure it. Instruct the children to repeat with the other string into the remaining holes. Then give the children each a third length of yarn/string and have them make a hanging loop through the middle of each attached string, allowing the windsock to fly freely
Have the children attach long strips of colorful crepe paper securely to the end of the cylinder that has not had holes punched into it. Tell the children to take their windsocks home and hang them outside to enjoy watching them blow in the wind.
