That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism

with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by
the devil, for God was with him. (v. 37)
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you ever watch the Weather Channel on television? (let them answer) How many of your moms or dads watch the Weather Channel? (let them answer)
A lot of people watch this channel because they are interested in the weather. They like to know if it is going to be really hot or cold. They want to know if the sun is going to shine or if the rain is going to fall. The people on the Weather Channel seem to know what is happening everywhere in the world. They can tell you about what is happening in every state. They will even show you pictures of people stuck in the snow or trying to get out of the strong wind.
The weather station is watched more when a hurricane is coming. People watch while it is forming over the ocean and spinning toward some place like Mexico or North Carolina. If it is raining hard and they think there will be too much water, they will warn people to be careful of a flood. Sometimes the sun is just too hot and people who have a hard time breathing should not be outside. The Weather Channel spreads the message of what we should watch for today and tomorrow and for maybe the next two or three days. That's what they do. They study weather and spread the message all over the world.
The message about Jesus spread like a weather report. One day, John the Baptist baptized him and the word spread everywhere. John said that Jesus was the promised one of God - - the Messiah. It spread from one town to another. People talked about it on the road, while they were shopping, or getting water at the well. They told their neighbors and other friends. In the beginning, there were just a few who heard the word of John, but within days, all of Israel was buzzing about Jesus, the chosen one of God.
The next time you see a weather report in the newspaper or hear one on the radio, you will know the weather message. You can learn more about the weather on the Weather Channel. The weather message is always spreading. I want you to remember that the message that Jesus was the chosen one of God spread even faster. You can help spread the message that Jesus is a God of love. Amen.
