SHARING THIS WEEK'S GOSPEL THEME AT SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AT
HOME
Materials:
Sugar
Milk
Vanilla
Rock salt
Pint-sized plastic zipper bags
Gallon-sized plastic zipper bags
Ice cubes
Paper towels
Plastic spoons
Ice cream toppings (optional)
Directions:
1. Fill each gallon-sized (large) bag about half way with ice. Add 6 tablespoons of rock salt per bag and seal. (This can be done ahead of time and kept in a cooler or freezer if you have access.)
2. Help each child place 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon sugar into a pint-sized (small) bag and seal it carefully.
3. Direct the children to open the larger bags and place the smaller bags inside the larger one and seal again, being sure that the seal is completely closed.
4. Instruct the children to shake the bags until the mixture becomes ice cream consistency. This takes about five minutes.
5. After opening the large bag, have the children use a wet paper towel to clean off the top of the small bag.
6. Hand out spoons and let the children eat their ice cream.
Optional: Toppings such as chocolate syrup or fruit are a nice addition.
Note: For younger children, this can be done in groups or by having adult helpers help the children with the shaking.
