Tell others
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Today's gospel lesson is about sharing in
words about Jesus. The children's sermon is quite abstract. How
can our gift be a person -- Jesus? How can we tell others about
it? How can we even understand the importance of what Jesus has
done?
Witnessing to others about our faith is a challenge for everyone. The Gerasene demoniac could tell others about the dramatic healing that had taken place in his life because of Jesus. In similar, though usually less-dramatic ways, Jesus heals us. Each of us can tell, in simple words, what Jesus has done or does every day in our lives.
Perhaps telling others means telling about worship or Sunday school. Perhaps telling others means telling about the wonderful children's Christmas pageant last year and inviting friends to join them this year.
Consider a mid-year Christmas party. Have the children bring their favorite gifts from last year's Christmas. Ask them, "Why do we exchange gifts at Christmas?" Explain to them that our gift-giving is our way of acting out God's great gift-giving of Jesus. We give because we have received such a great gift. We tell others because others have told us. Have the children invite someone to Sunday school or worship next week.
Spend time making a special mid-year Christmas card inviting a friend to Sunday school or worship. The cards could be original by the students or it could be a pre-made card that the children could color.
