There's only one ticket
Children's sermon
Object:
an airline travel ticket of some kind or a facsimile of
one
Good morning! I want you to imagine that you are planning a
trip to _______. (Wherever the ticket will take them.) Now, you
check with your travel agent and find out that there is only one
airline that flies to that destination. The agent sells you a
ticket like this one, which goes to the place you want to go on
the only airline that goes there. With that ticket, do you think
you will get to where you want to go? (Let them answer.) Yes, you
will. You have the right ticket on the right airline, and it's
going to the place that you want to go.
Well, let's suppose that you have a neighbor who also wants
to go to ________________. This neighbor has gone to a different
travel agent, and that agent sold him a ticket on a different
airline that isn't going to city he wants to go to. What do you
think you should tell your neighbor? (Let them answer.) Yes, of
course, you should point out to him that he's not going to get
where he wants to go because he's on the wrong airline.
This is the situation that we often find ourselves in. We
know that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. There is no way for
anyone to get to Heaven except through Jesus. Yet, we all have
neighbors who don't know this. They are trying to get to Heaven
in some other way. They think they can get to Heaven without
believing in Jesus. They are just like the neighbor who has a
ticket on the wrong airline, and we need to let them know that
they need to get the right ticket. Let's ask God to help us find
ways to let our neighbors know the truth.
Dear Father-God: Please help us find ways to let our neighbors
know that Your Son, Jesus, is the only way to Heaven. Give us the
courage to speak the truth to these people in love so that they
can be saved. Amen.
