They are precious in his sight
Children's sermon
Object:
marbles that are solid colors of white, black, brown, yellow, and red, and enough of them so that all of the children can take at least one of them home
Good morning, boys and girls. Today is Thanksgiving and it is a very special day. What makes Thanksgiving special to you today? (let them answer and try to get each child to say something) Those are very good reasons and happy reasons for Thanksgiving being a special day.
I brought along some marbles with me this morning and I want you to look at them very carefully. Do you see that they are different colors? (let them answer) Very good, we have white, black, brown, yellow, and red marbles. They are not only pretty but I am going to let you choose your favorite colored marble and take it home with you. (let each child select one of the marbles) Good! Now I want to tell you what these marbles mean and ask you to do something for me.
Each of these marbles represents a kind of people that live in our country. Not every country has many people with white skin, black skin, brown skin, yellow skin, and reddish skin. But our country has many of each kind. It makes us a special place to live. People come to our country from all over the world. Most of the people in the country they came from had only one or maybe two colors of skin. But we are rich because we have so many different kinds of people.
The Bible tells us that we should pray for all of our people and make thanksgivings just like the Pilgrims, who were white, did with the Indians, who were red. Do you remember the story about the first Thanksgiving? (let them answer) Before they ate their Thanksgiving meal, they prayed for each other. They had a lot to be thankful for and so they thanked God for how he had helped them and also for the Indians who were their friends.
I want you to take your marble home and pray for all of the people that are of this color and live with us in America. Pray to God for all of the white people and thank God for them being your friends. If you have a black marble, pray for all of the black people and for them being your friends. Do this with every color of marble you have. Now here is the best part. After you have prayed for the people who are the color of your marble, you can pray for all of the other colors of people.
God has made us a very rich nation with many colors of people. Let us remember all these on this great Thanksgiving, and may God bless every one of us.
