Children's sermon
Object:
a marriage certificate
Good morning! Are any of you guys married? (Let them
answer.) No, of course you aren't. None of you are old enough yet
to be married, but do you know anybody who is married? (Let them
answer.) Yes, you know lots of people who are married, don't you?
When people get married, they get one of these. (Show the
certificate.) This certificate shows that a man and a woman have
taken some solemn vows. That means that they have made promises
to each other. What are some of the promises that people make
when they get married? (Let them answer.) Yes, they promise all
of those things, and one of the most important promises they make
is that they will stay with each other until they die. Do you
think that's a very important promise? (Let them answer.) Yes, it
surely is, and Jesus says that when God joins a man and a woman
together in marriage, nobody should ever separate them.
Now, we human beings are not perfect, and we do make
mistakes. Sometimes, married people are not able to keep the
promises that they make to each other. It's very sad when this
happens, and I'm sure you know people who this has happened to,
but what do you think God really wants? Does God want people to
do the best they can to keep the promises they make to each other
when they get married? (Let them answer.) Yes, He certainly does.
So when you are old enough to get married, are you going to keep
the promises you make? (Let them answer.) Good! Let's ask God to
help people keep their marriage vows.
Dear Father in Heaven: Please help all people that are married
keep the vows that they made. Amen.
