Good morning, boys and girls. What time to you get up in the morning? (let them answer) Who wakes you up? (let them answer) Is it the same time every day? (let them answer) What time do you eat breakfast? (let them answer) Is it about the same time every day? (let them answer) What time does school start? (let them answer) Is it the same time every day? (let them answer) What time does your favorite television program begin? (let them answer) Is it the same time every day? (let them answer)
Time is very important to us and we depend on it a lot. Because time is so important I brought along a number of clocks so that I will not miss something very important. I have the alarm clocks set at different times in case I fall asleep and miss this most important event. (clocks should start going off about every fifteen to twenty seconds, if possible) The reason that I set all of these clocks is because Jesus said that he is coming back and I don't want to miss him. If he comes and we are asleep we might miss him and we may never get to heaven. So far I am staying awake but I have to keep turning off the clocks. They are driving me buggy. Can each of you hold a clock and turn it off when the alarm stops ringing? It isn't like the school bus. We don't know when Jesus is coming. We know when to get up and when to go to bed but we don't know when Jesus is coming. So far it seems like twenty clocks have gone off and I haven't seen Jesus. What are we going to do? (let them answer)
Let's just turn off all of the clocks. It makes me nervous. There must be another way for us to know when Jesus is coming. Do you have any ideas? (let them answer) Those are some pretty good answers but let's try this one. Suppose we keep coming to church and worshiping God every Sunday. Let's read our Bibles every day to keep in touch with God's word. Let's also pray often, maybe three or four times a day. Let's also be sure that we forgive others and share all of the gifts that God gives to us. This should keep us very close to Jesus and so close that I believe we will be alert to the return of Jesus. That is what I believe. We will remain faithful to Jesus and Jesus will be faithful to us. Amen.
