Touch and see!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: We perceive what is true and what is
not true through our senses and through trusted sources
(witnesses). With the resurrection of Jesus, we only have the
trusted source of the biblical witness.
* If you have someone in the congregation who can read Braille, have that person do a demonstration for your class today.
* Learn some basic Braille letters. A good dictionary or encyclopedia can give you the letters.
* Have today's verse or John 3:16 in Braille by putting it in dots that the children can punch and keep.
* Invite the children to feel any crosses you have at home or school. Invite them to imagine that they cannot see and never could see and the only way they could understand the world would be through touch. Ask, "What does the cross say to you?"
* Explain how the Bible is a record of the witnesses Jesus told about (verse 48). They saw, heard, and felt so that we can believe.
Sunday school assembly opening:
* Support a mission project for the blind.
* Have not only candles (visual aids) and music (hearing aids), but also touch in today's opening. Bring along several kinds of crosses and invite the children to come and feel them. You could bring along some incense as a sense of smell aid.
