Transforming vacation
Children's sermon

something from a vacation (post card, tee-shirt)
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like to go on
vacations? (Let them answer.) How many of you have gone on a
vacation, and wished that you could stay there forever? (Let them
answer.)
I want to tell you a story of a family who went on a vacation. This family went on a trip to the mountains. They packed their car. The children took games to play in the car, books to read, and crayons to color with. They finally came to the mountains. The scenery was beautiful. The view was wonderful. It was peaceful at the top of the mountain. The family had a picnic lunch on the mountain top. As they looked over the countryside from their picnic view all the troubles of the world seemed so far away. "Let's take a picture of us on this mountain top," said one of the children. "After we take the picture I'm going to gather some rocks and make a rock pile, so that if I ever come back I'll remember this spot." The family camped in a campsite for one week on the mountain. They bought some postcards (show your post cards or vacation items.) The vacation was so wonderful that the family didn't want to leave. They wanted to remain there forever. But, the vacation was eventually over and it was time to go home. As the family traveled home they realized that the vacation changed them. It made them feel closer as a family. It made them feel better about themselves. It made them feel better about other people. The vacation transformed them into better people!
The same thing once happened to three of Jesus' disciples. Jesus took Peter, James and John to a mountain top. The disciples had such a great experience there that they didn't want to leave.
This week think about great things that have happened in your life. Remember the good times you have had with your family. Remember Peter, James and John. They had a great experience on a mountain top once with Jesus.
