The truth makes us free
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers: For this activity you will need sticky labels, or
sheets of paper to create greeting cards.
Center your activity on the phrase "The truth will make you free," from verse 32. Tell your students that Jesus told his people that if they believe in him and continue to follow him then they become his disciples. Jesus told them that when they become his disciples they will know the truth and that the truth will make them free.
Tell your students that because they follow Jesus each one of them is a disciple of Jesus. If you have sticky labels (to stick on students' shirts) pass these out. Have each student write "I'm a disciple of Jesus" on the label. Then let them decorate the labels. Students should put them on and wear them after leaving Sunday school. If you choose to make cards, give each student a sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. Fold it in half. Have students create greeting cards that they may give to their parents. The outside of the card can state: "I'm a disciple of Jesus." The inside can state: "The truth will make you free. John 8:32." Students should be encouraged to draw a picture of Jesus standing with them on the outside or inside of the card.
Parents: Your child created a sticky label or greeting card stating that she is a disciple of Jesus. Help her create a greeting card stating that you are also a disciple of Jesus. Use the verse "The truth will make you free" in making your card.
