Undeserving of God's love
Children's Activity
Object:
It's easy for all of us to doubt God's love for us,
particularly if we have done something wrong. It is important for
us to be reminded all the time that there is no place we can hide
from the love of God, and nothing we can do that will ever make
him stop loving us.
Here's a simple (and very memorable) activity to help
children understand the abundance of God's love for us. Have an
empty glass and a pitcher of water handy. Ask the children how
much they think God loves them. Ask, "This much?" and pour a
small amount of water into the glass. Then say, "More? Then how
about this much?" Keep doing this until the glass is almost full.
See how full you can get the glass without actually letting any
water spill over the sides. Then, with great confidence, announce
that you think God loves us "THIS MUCH!" and pour the water in a
big stream so that the glass completely overflows.
The fun part of this activity is that the children would
never expect an adult to spill deliberately. (Adults aren't
supposed to make messes, are they?) The children won't expect you
to pour out that much water, but you will. That's exactly what
God does for us. Even though we don't believe it, God is always
pouring his love on us in abundant ways.
