might try a fast-food restaurant kid's meal box or a picture of a
popular amusement park.)
Good morning boys and girls. What is the biggest surprise that you have ever had? (Let them answer.) I want to tell you about a little boy about your age who had a very big surprise. It was so terrific that he wasn't certain how to react.
This little boy loved to watch movies. One day the owner of the video store where he usually went to get movies, knocked on the boy's door. The owner, whose name was Mr. Gabriel, told the boy that there was a big surprise for the boy. "I have great news for you. You are the winner of a drawing in our store. Here is your prize. For each week of the year for the next year, you get to choose one free movie to watch. Each movie is yours to keep."
Can you imagine the boy's surprise? He won a free movie each week for a year. He never has to return the movies he chooses. The boy was so surprised that he didn't know what to say. He said, "I don't even remember entering this contest. Are you certain that I'm the winner?" Mr. Gabriel answered, "You are the chosen winner." How would you feel if this happened to you? (Let them answer.)
In our Bible story this morning an angel named Gabriel visited Mary. Gabriel told Mary that he had great news for her. He told Mary that she was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Jesus would be the savior of the entire world! Mary's response was just like the little boy's. She couldn't believe what she had heard. How would you feel if this happened to you? (Let them answer.) In a few minutes this scripture story will be read about Mary from the pulpit. Listen to it and ask yourself how you would feel if you were given a big surprise like Mary.
