Wake up!
Children's sermon
Object:
an alarm clock
Good morning! Sometimes it is very important that we wake up
in the morning at a certain time. For instance, if you go to
school, you have to get up early enough so that you can get
dressed, have breakfast, and get whatever you need to take with
you ready. Now, in your house, how do you make sure that you wake
up on time? (Let them answer.)
Most families use one of these. (Show the clock.) If we have
to get up at six, we set the alarm for six (set the alarm), and
then when it gets to be six (move the hands to six) the alarm
goes off. (Let the alarm ring briefly.) It would be hard not to
wake up with all that noise, wouldn't it? (Let them answer.)
You know Jesus has promised that he is coming back to take
us all to Heaven with him, and he wants us to be ready when that
time comes. It would be nice if we knew when he was coming so we
could set an alarm to be sure we were ready, but we don't know
when he is coming so we can't do that. However, he has told us
who he is taking with him when he returns. So if we can just take
him at his word, we can know how to be ready. Do you think we can
believe what Jesus has said? (Let them answer.)
Of course we can! Jesus has promised to take everyone with
him who believes in him. Those who believe that he died on the
cross to pay for their sins are always ready for him no matter
when he comes. Do all of you believe in Jesus? (Let them answer.)
Good! Then you don't need an alarm clock. You are always ready.
Dear Jesus: We are so thankful that you have made us your
children so that we are always ready for your return. Amen.
