Want to live forever?
Children's sermon
Object:
a newspaper obituary and a Bible
Good morning! I brought this clipping from the newspaper to
show you this morning. (Show the obituary.) This kind of article
is called an obituary. It tells about a person who has died
recently. It tells us when he/she was born and some things about
his/her life and family, and sometimes it tells the cause of
his/her death. Now, let's suppose that I had gone to this person
before he/she died and asked him/her if he/she wanted to live or
die, what do you think he/she would have said? (Let them answer.)
Of course, if this person were given a choice, he/she would
rather live. Nobody wants to die, but everyone does die
eventually.
If I told you this morning that there is a way to live
forever and not die, would you be interested? (Let them answer.)
Well, I am going to tell you that, and it's absolutely true! I
know it's true because it is written right here in the Bible.
(Show the Bible.) Jesus tells us that he is the bread of life and
that anyone who eats this bread will live forever. Do you believe
Jesus? Is he telling the truth? (Let them answer.) Of course he
is telling the truth! Jesus never tells anything but the truth.
What he means is that anyone who believes in him will never die.
Those who believe in Jesus will simply pass on into Heaven when
they finish their life here on earth. I don't know if this
man/woman in the obituary believed in Jesus or not, but if he/she
did, he/she is in heaven right now. Oh yes, I know they had a
funeral for the person like it says here in the paper, but the
person is not dead. He/she is with God in Heaven and will be
living there forever.
Let's thank God for allowing all of us to live forever with
Him in Heaven.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for giving us eternal life in
Heaven because we believe in Your son, Jesus. We want to live
forever and we know that we will because we believe Your promise.
Amen.
