Want to live forever?
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus tells us that he is the bread of
life and those who eat this bread will live forever. Nobody will
question the fact that all people desire eternal life. The
problem is that most people don't understand that God is willing
to give it to us freely if only we believe in His Son, Jesus
Christ. Our challenge with children is to make sure they see that
eternal life is theirs without cost, if they believe in Jesus.
*Prepare some play money or use monopoly money and give each
child an equal amount. Conduct an auction of several things
(candy bars, small toys, any inexpensive favor), letting the
children bid on the items until they are all sold. Be sure they
understand that once their money is spent they can no longer do
any bidding. When the final item is sold, tell them you have one
more item to bid on. The final item is a ticket to eternal life
in Heaven. How much are they willing to bid for it? Those who
have money left will probably bid all that they have. You can ask
the others whether they regret that they have no money left to
bid. After all bidding is done, explain to them that they do not
have to spend anything to get this final item. God gives it to
them as a free gift when they believe in Jesus. We, who believe,
have eternal life already. We don't have to do anything to get it
because God gives it freely to all who believe in Jesus.
Sunday school assembly opening:
*Ask the children to tell about the oldest person they ever
met. Let four or five children do this and then ask them if the
person they described is still living. If any say that the person
is not living, ask them if the person believed in Jesus as
his/her Savior. If so, explain to them that people who believe in
Jesus never really die, but just pass on to a new life in Heaven.
