We need all the pieces

Object:
a simple puzzle with just a few pieces (withhold one key
piece)
Good morning! I brought this puzzle today and I want to see
if you can put it together. Here's the picture of what it should
look like when you are through. (Show the picture and give each
of them a piece or two. Then let them put the puzzle together.)
You did a good job, but there's something wrong, isn't there?
What's wrong? (Let them answer.) Yes, there's a piece missing. It
ruins the picture when a piece is missing, doesn't it? Here is
the missing piece. Go ahead now and finish it. (Let them put in
the final piece.)
The Bible tells us that the church is like that puzzle and
all of us are a part of it. If one of us doesn't do what God
wants us to do, it's like the puzzle with a piece missing. But
when we all do our part, it's like the completed puzzle. It looks
and works a lot better.
Now, do all of you want to be a working piece of the puzzle,
or do you want to be a missing piece? (Let them answer.) If you
want to be a piece of this puzzle, it means that you will try to
be here for church as often as possible and that you will try to
do whatever you can to help the church work. Will you all try to
do that? (Let them answer.) That's good. Let's ask God to help
us.
Dear God: Please help us do what You want us to do so that we
will always fit into the church and help it work the way You want
it to work. Amen.
