We need the doctor!
Children's Activity
Object:
Teachers or Parents: Jesus came into the world to save the
lost. That's us! All of us would continue to be lost if Jesus did
not find us and cure us of the terrible malady of sin. We need
the doctor who is the only one who can cure sin, and that doctor
is Jesus. Our children need to see Jesus as the one who can cure
our sin when we go to him with a repentant heart and ask him for
forgiveness. Unlike human doctors who can only promise to do
their best and give no guarantees, Jesus promises a complete cure
for all who come to him.
*Ask the children to get into two groups. One group will be
all those who are sick and need a doctor, and the other group
will be those who are completely healthy. Probably all of them
will get into the healthy group, as none of them feel they need a
doctor right now. When they are in the group, tell them that they
are wrong because they do need a doctor. They need a doctor who
can heal their sin, because all of them have sinned this week.
See if they can name the only doctor who can heal sin.
*Make cards naming a variety of ailments that the children
will be familiar with. Use general terms such as "stomach
problem" or "eye problem" or "blood disease" and list one ailment
per card. Make one with the word Sin printed on it. Make enough
cards so there will be one for each child. Pass out the cards,
and then call on the children one by one, asking them to name
what kind of a doctor they would call to help them with the
problem listed on the card. Last, call on the person with the sin
card and ask him or her what kind of doctor is needed. You can
then discuss how Jesus is the only doctor that can help us with
our sin disease.
