We're all God's family
Children's sermon
Object:
bring your family (or someone else's) with you when you
tell the lesson
Good morning, boys and girls. I brought my family members (or,
name the family that you brought) with me this morning. (Name
them all and tell their relationship to you, or to one of the
parents.) Everyone here this morning has a family. When we talk
about families, sometimes we even include grandparents, aunts and
uncles and even cousins. There are times when we even include
very close friends in our larger family. Some of you may live
very far from your grandparents. In that case, you may have
"adopted" grandparents. Those are people who live near you.
Perhaps their own grandchildren live far away from them. That way
they have you as adopted grandchildren. Do any of you have
adopted grandparents? (Let them answer.)
There's something else that I want to tell you about families that you might not know. All of us here this morning are part of a very special family. We are all part of our church family. (As you say this spread your arms out, pointing to the congregation.) Everyone here this morning is part of God's family. I know that because our lesson this morning tells us this. Our lesson says that we are all God's own children. Since we are God's children, all that God has belongs to each of us also. That is the way God planned it. When you return to your seat with your family, take a moment to look around at the other persons worshiping today. As you do that remember that you and all of us are children in God's family.
