We're in the Book!
Children's sermon
Object:
a notebook
Good morning! I brought this notebook with me today and I'd
like to record all your names in it. Let's go around the group
here and you give me your name and I'll write it down in the
book. (Write down all the names as they give them to you.)
Okay, now what if I told you that everyone who has his or
her name in this book will get a million dollars? Would that make
you happy? Wouldn't you be glad that you came to church today and
got your name in this book? (Let them answer.)
Well, of course you would, and how do you think your friends
who didn't come to church would feel? Wouldn't they be sorry that
they were not in church and didn't get their names in the book?
(Let them answer.)
Actually, I can't give you a million dollars just because
your name is in the book, but I can tell you that there is
another book which has your name in it, and your name in that
book is worth a lot more than a million dollars. Does anyone have
any idea what that book is? (Let them answer.) That book is the
"Book of Life." It's God's book and everyone who has his or her
name in that book will spend eternity in heaven with God. Is that
worth more than a million dollars? (Let them answer.)
Now, I said your name is in God's book. How do you think it
got there? How do we get our names in the Book of Life? (Let them
answer.) We get our names in this book by believing in God's Son,
Jesus. When we believe that Jesus is our Savior who died on the
cross to pay for our sins, our names are recorded in the Book of
Life. Do all of you believe that Jesus is your friend and that he
died to pay for your sins? (Let them answer.) Okay, then you are
in the book! Let's thank him for putting us in the book.
Dearest Jesus: Thank you for being our friend and dying on the
cross to pay for our sins. Because of what you did for us, our
names are written in the Book of Life. Amen.
