We're rich!
Children's sermon
Object:
toy car, boat, and airplane
Good morning! How many of you are really rich? How many of
you have all the money you could ever want so that you can buy
anything you want? (Let them answer.) I didn't think so. If any
of you were that rich, I was hoping you would consider giving a
generous gift to the church.
Let's just pretend we are rich for a moment. Let's say this
toy car is real and it's worth $50,000. And let's say this toy
boat is real and it's worth $100,000, and this toy airplane is a
Lear jet worth 2 million dollars. Besides all that, let's say you
have 50 million dollars in the bank. Would you say all that makes
you rich? (Let them answer.)
Okay, we have all that and we're rich, but tomorrow we die.
Which of those things will do us any good? Can we take any of
that stuff with us when we die? (Let them answer.) No, of course
not. The richest man in the world will leave this world with the
same amount of stuff that the poorest man has when he dies:
NOTHING!
Now, what if I told you that there is something that you can
take with you when you die? Something that is more valuable than
all the cars, boats, airplanes, and money in the whole world?
Something that will guarantee you eternal life in heaven where
you will have everything you could ever want and be truly happy?
Would you say somebody who had that was really rich? (Let them
answer.) Well, then we are all rich, because you and I have that
already. Everyone who believes in Jesus and loves him has that.
Do all of you believe in Jesus and love him? (Let them answer.)
That's great! Then you are truly rich! Let's thank Jesus for
making us rich.
Dear Jesus: We thank you for making us rich in the only thing
that really counts, faith in you that will give us eternal life
and happiness. Amen.
