We're rich!
Children's sermon
Object:
a toy car, a boat, and an airplane
Good morning! How many of you are rich? How many of you have
so much money that you don't know what to do with it? (Let them
answer.) Let's pretend for a while. Let's pretend that this toy
car is a real car, and it's a very expensive car worth $50,000.
And this boat is a real yacht worth $150,000, and this airplane
is a private jet worth $500,000. If you owned all this, would you
be rich? (Let them answer.)
Let me ask you this. Even if you were rich and owned all
those things, how much would they be worth to you if you died?
(Let them answer.) No, of course not. They wouldn't be worth
anything because none of those things mean anything after we're
dead and gone.
What if we offered a really rich person who was dying a pill
that would let him live forever? Do you think he would trade all
that he owns for that pill? (Let them answer.) Yes, of course he
would. Would you say that a person who had a pill like that was
really rich? (Let them answer.)
I want you to know that you and I have such a pill. It's
called faith. God gives us faith so we can believe in Jesus, and
God promises that everyone who believes in Jesus will live
forever with Him in Heaven. Do all of you believe that Jesus died
on the cross to pay for our sins and rose again from the dead?
(Let them answer.) Okay, so you and I are rich! Because we
believe in Jesus, we have the most valuable thing in the world,
and nobody can take it away from us, and that makes us richer
than the richest person in the world if that person doesn't
believe in Jesus.
Let's thank God for this wonderful gift that makes us rich.
Dear God in Heaven: We thank You for making us rich by giving us
eternal life. We are grateful that You have enriched us in every
way. Amen.
