What we will be
Children's sermon
Object:
a potted plant and a seed
Good morning! What do I have here? (Show the plant and let
them answer.) Yes, this is a plant, maybe like some you have in
your own house. Now, was this plant always like this? Did it just
pop into existence as a fully-grown plant or was it something
different before it became a fully-grown plant? (Let them
answer.) That's right. To begin with, this plant was just a
little seed like this. (Show the seed.) The seed was planted and
eventually it became a beautiful plant.
The Bible tells us that this also happens to us. When we
die, our bodies are put in the ground, but God raises us up, just
like He does this plant, and we become something that is new and
beautiful in Heaven. We don't know exactly what we will be like
in Heaven, but we do know that it will be something quite
wonderful. If that's true, and I assure you that it is, do you
think we should be afraid of death? (Let them answer.) No, we
Christians have nothing to fear from death. When we die, we are
going to go to Heaven and be with God, and all of us will have
grown into something beautiful and wonderful.
Well, let's thank God for making us His people and for
promising to let us all grow into something new and wonderful.
Dear Father God: We thank You for all Your promises, and we
especially thank You today for Your promise that we will all be
raised from the dead to be something new, unique, and wonderful
in Heaven. Amen.
