What is your talent?
Children's sermon
Object:
a craft or art work created by someone in your
congregation (you might want that person to sit with you during
your lesson time)
Good morning, boys and girls. I want to share (name the object
and the person that made it) with you this morning. (Name the
person) has a real gift, or talent, for creating something like
this. Very few members of our church could create something as
beautiful as this. This (name the object) reminds me of this
morning's lesson. In the lesson, Paul tells us that members of
the church have different talents, or gifts. One person may have
a talent for one thing. Another member may have a talent for
another thing.
For example, we have a choir director, who has a talent for directing the choir. We have a preacher, who has a talent for preaching. We have Sunday school teachers, who have talents for teaching. These people may be good at what they do. They may not be talented, or gifted, in other things. We all contribute to the glory of God with the gifts that God gives us. If we are good as artists, we paint. If we are good singers, we sing. If we are good teachers, we teach. We are not all expected to be able to be artists - singers - teachers.
Did you ever think that our church is like someone's body? (Let them answer.) We all have hands, feet and heads. But those body parts only do certain things. We don't walk with our hands, do we! We don't eat with our feet! Our hands have one purpose. Our feet have another purpose. Just like our hands and feet, it takes all kinds of people, with all kinds of talents or gifts to make a church. Some of you have talents that I don't have. Some of you have talents that even members of your family don't have. That is a wonderful thing. It is wonderful when you contribute your talent that God gave you to the church.
This week I want you to think about what your special talent might be. Think about it and see if you use your talent in church to glorify God. You might be an artist, a singer or a person who helps others. Our church needs people with many different talents.
