Who is coming?
Children's sermon
Object:
a Christmas card
Good morning, boys and girls. Does anyone know what a
messenger is? (Let them answer.) A messenger has something to
tell to us. I brought a special card with me this morning. (Show
your card.) Can anyone tell me what this card is about? (Let them
answer.) This card is all about someone who is coming soon. Can
anyone tell me who is coming soon? (Let them answer.) So, my card
is a messenger, isn't it? It tells the person who receives it
that someone is coming. That someone is Jesus.
My card reminds me of this morning's lesson. The lesson was written before Jesus was born. The lesson tells people that a messenger is coming. Today we know that messenger was John, Jesus' cousin. John was Jesus' messenger. John was coming to prepare a way for Jesus. That's what John did. We are in the season of Advent. That's the season just before Christmas. One of the things we do in Advent is wait for Jesus to come.
Here's what I want you to remember this morning. God sent a messenger to the people. His name was John. John came to prepare the way for Jesus. The next time you see a Christmas card remember that it has a message. It's message is that Jesus is coming. We must be ready for Jesus. Remember that God sent John to tell the message that Jesus was coming.
