a Bible and a well-known fictional novel
Good morning! How many of you like to read? (Let them
answer.) What kind of books do you like the best? Do you like
adventures stories? Western stories? Fairy tales? (Let them
answer.)
I brought one of my favorite books with me today. (Show the
novel.) The book's title is __________. It's a novel written by
__________. I like the way this author writes so I look for other
books that he/she has written. When we know how a particular
author writes and we like it, we are much more likely to read
other books by that author. Do you have a favorite author? (Let
them answer.)
Now here's another book. (Show the Bible.) This is my
favorite book of all the books that were ever written. Who's the
author of this book? (Let them answer.) The author of the Bible
is God! Of course, he used a lot of different men throughout
history to actually write down what He wanted written, but God is
the real author. He inspired the writers of the Bible to write
what He wanted them to say. Another name for the Bible is "The
Scriptures." God tells us right in the Bible that all Scripture
is inspired by God. That means that God led the writers to say
what He wanted them to say.
That's the difference between these two books. This book
(show the novel) is written by a person to entertain the people
like me who read it. It is fun to read, but I know that it is
just a story that the author made up. On the other hand, when I
read this book (show the Bible) I know that every word is true
and not made up. Which book do you think is the most important?
(Let them answer.)
Yes, of course, the Bible is the most important book in the
world because the author of the Bible is God and we need to
listen to Him, don't we? (Let them answer.)
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You so much for giving us Your
Holy Words in this wonderful book. We ask You to lead us to read
it and make it the most important book in our life. Amen.
