Who's the boss?
Children's sermon
Object:
an organizational chart
Good morning! Have you ever seen one of these? (Show the
chart and let them answer.) This is called an organizational
chart. Someday, when you go to work somewhere, they will have one
of these to show everybody who is in charge of what. At the
bottom of the chart are the workers who do work, but who are not
in charge of anybody else. As we go up the chart we see people
with more and more responsibility until we get to the very top
where we see the person who is in charge of the whole
organization. This person is the boss. Everyone under him or her
on the chart has less power and responsibility.
Now, what if we were to make this kind of chart for the
whole world? Who would be at the very top of the chart? Who would
be the boss? (Let them answer.) The Bible tells us that Jesus
would be at the top. The Bible says that God put all things under
his feet and made him the head over all things. That makes him
the boss!
Now, if Jesus is the boss, how come so many people in the
world don't know that he is the boss? Why do so many people keep
doing bad things that he doesn't want them to do? (Let them
answer.) It's because they don't know him. They don't know he is
the boss. What do you think we ought to do about that? (Let them
answer.) Yes, we need to tell people about him. We need to get
our friends to come to church and learn about him. Because, if
they never find out about him and they die without believing in
him, will they go to heaven? (Let them answer.) No, they won't.
So we need to make sure we tell everyone about Jesus. Let's ask
God to help us do that.
Dear God in Heaven: We know You want us to tell everyone about
Jesus, but sometimes we have trouble doing that. Please give us
the courage to share what we believe about Jesus with everyone we
know so that they will know that he is truly the boss of the
whole world. Amen.
