Who's going to live there?
Children's sermon
Object:
a newspaper or magazine article about the 2000 census
Good morning! The current year is just about over. In less
than two months, it will be 2001. One thing that has been
happening this year is the national census. Here's an article
about the census. (Show the article.) The census is taken every
ten years. The next one will be taken in 2010. How old will you
be when they take the next census? (Let them answer.)
Does anybody know why they take a census? (Let them answer.)
Well, they need to gather the information about how many people
live in each place in the country for a lot of reasons. (Talk
about some of the uses of census information.)
The Bible tells us that a time is coming when all the people
of God will live in one city. This city will be called New
Jerusalem, but you can also just call it Heaven. Now, can you
tell me how many people will live there? (Let them answer.) No,
of course not. Nobody but God knows that. However, I do know that
I'm going to be one of the people living there. How do I know
that? How can anybody know that they will live there? (Let them
answer.) Everybody who believes in Jesus as their friend and
Savior will live there. Do all of you believe that Jesus is your
friend and that he died on the cross to pay for your sins? (Let
them answer.) Well, if you believe that, you are a saint!
Everybody who believes in Jesus as their Savior is a saint, and
they will live in that New Jerusalem city that God is preparing
for them. Isn't that wonderful? Today is All Saints' Sunday and
all of us are saints. This is our Sunday!
Let's thank God for making us His saints.
Dear Father in Heaven: We thank You for making us Your saints and
for preparing for us a wonderful city where we can live with You
forever. Amen.
