Who's got the power?
Children's sermon
Object:
pictures of elected officials up to and including the
President
Good morning! I brought some pictures to show you today, and
I want to see how many you recognize. Who is this person? (Show a
picture of a mayor or governor and let them answer.) This is
___________. Do you think he/she has a lot of power and
authority? (Let them answer.) Yes, I think we would all agree
that he/she has a certain amount of power and authority, but
let's look at another person. Do you know who this one is? (Show
a picture of a senator from your state or other high official and
let them answer.) This is __________________ and again I ask you,
does he/she have power and authority because of the office he/she
occupies? (Let them answer.) Okay, one final one. Who is this?
(Show a picture of the President and let them answer.) Yes, this
is the President and we all know he has a lot of power and
authority.
Now, all these people have power and authority, but who is
it that has the most power and authority in the whole world? (Let
them answer. It's probable that someone will identify Jesus.)
Jesus Christ has complete power and authority, not only in this
world, but also in the entire universe! The Bible says that Jesus
is far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and
above every name that is named, including all these powerful
people that I have shown you. He is the King!
Today is Christ The King Sunday. On this day, we celebrate
the fact that Jesus does have complete power and authority, more
than any human being ever had or ever will have. We would never
want any human being to have that much power, but we are glad
that Jesus has that power because we know that he loves us and
will always do what is best for us. Let's thank Jesus for being
our King.
Dear Jesus: We thank you for being a king who cares about his
people. We are grateful that you rule the universe with wisdom
and kindness and love. Amen.
