A wonderful stream
Children's sermon
Object:
a big pitcher filled with water, a bowl, an ear syringe, a wet washcloth
that can be wrung out
And hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our
hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)
Good morning, boys and girls. Today is a wonderful time for us to find out something about the love of God. How many of you have the love of God in your mind and body? (let them answer) Can you feel it? When you get up in the morning, do you say, "Thank you, God, for all of your love and be with me all day today?" I know some people who feel like this almost every day. They are very happy people.
I would like to show you how God likes to become a part of your life. I brought along a couple of things that will give you the idea. First, I brought a little thing that is called an ear syringe. I want to draw some water into it (fill the syringe with water and then let it release a drop at a time) and then let the water out. Does that look like the way that God would come into your life, just a drop at a time? (let them answer) I don't think so either.
I have another way to test you. (pick up the wet washcloth and wring it out so that the water flows out in a broken manner) What do you think of the washcloth's water? Does that look like God coming into your life? (let them answer) I don't think so.
(pour a full pitcher of water into a bucket or bowl, and don't pour it fast but steady in a nice flow) What do you think about the way the water flows in a stream into the bowl? (let them answer) This is it!
The Bible says that God's love is poured into our hearts. God has great love and more than enough to share with every one of us. He pours his love into our hearts and makes us full of joy. He also gives us strength and power so that we can overcome being afraid or being hurt and suffering. God's love is pouring.
The next time you think about the love of God, I want you to imagine the wonderful stream of water pouring into this bowl. Then you can see how God fills us up with his love. Amen.
