Happy Easter! Did you know that it's still Easter? Easter is so amazing that we don't just celebrate it on one Sunday. Easter season goes on for six more Sundays. We need to keep celebrating Easter because what happened is so important. Just like it took us a while to get ready for it, it takes us a while to keep learning about what happened.
In today's reading we hear the story of when Jesus first appeared to his disciples. After Jesus died, the disciples were afraid. They were scared that the same people who killed Jesus would come after them too. So they locked themselves inside a house and hid. Suddenly Jesus appeared inside the room with them. He showed them the marks from his crucifixion and the disciples rejoiced that Jesus had risen from the dead, just like he said he would. One of the disciples, Thomas, refused to believe until he touched Jesus for himself. Once he had touched the holes in Jesus' hands and side, Thomas finally believed in the miracle of the Resurrection.
The Gospel writer says that the stories of what happened after the Resurrection have been written down so that we can believe too. (hold up the Bible) It's true that Jesus hasn't appeared to us, and we haven't been able to touch him for ourselves. We can still believe, though, because the stories have been written in the Bible. The writers of the scripture wanted us to know the stories. They wanted us to hear about what happened so that we could believe in the miracle of Easter too. I'm so glad they did. Now their stories are our stories.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice. Help us understand what happened to you so that we can believe. Amen.
