You're paid for
Children's sermon
Object:
a price tag
Good morning! Have you ever gone shopping in a big store, a
department store like ____________(name a local store they would
be familiar with and let them answer). If you are in a big store
like that, you will see a lot of these. (Show the price tag.) Why
do they put price tags on the things that they sell? (Let them
answer.) Yes, the tag tells you how much the item costs. That is
the price you must pay if you want to buy it. If you pay that
price and buy the item, who does it belong to? (Let them answer.)
Of course, it belongs to you once you pay the price and buy it.
Now, I don't see any price tags on any of you. How much do
you think you are worth? (Let them answer.) Well, I'm sure your
parents think you are very valuable and wouldn't sell you for any
price, but there is somebody who did buy you a long time ago and
he paid a very high price for you. Who do you think did that?
(Let them answer.) Jesus bought and paid for you when he died on
the cross to pay for your sins. The price he paid was his own
suffering on that cross. If he was willing to pay that much for
us, don't you think we are quite valuable? (Let them answer.)
Now, since Jesus bought us for such a high price, who do we
belong to? (Let them answer.) Yes, we belong to Jesus, and we
should remember that all the time. Let's ask Jesus to keep us
ever mindful that we are his.
Dear Jesus: We thank you so much for paying the price for us by
dying on the cross. Help us remember always that we belong to
you. Amen.
