In 1996 Shannon Lucid set the record for the longest time an American has spent in orbit. She did that as she spent 188 days in orbit aboard the spacestation Mir. She reported that for the most part her experience on Mir was a good one. But at times she had a bit of difficulty getting along with the Russian men who were stationed there with her. Apparently every time those male cosmonauts prepared to take a spacewalk, they would go to Shannon Lucid and say to her, "You're in charge now, but don't touch the controls." As the Gospel of John presents the story of Good Friday, Jesus is depicted as being entirely in control of all that is taking place. -- Bowen
