After morning service at the coffee hour in the church hall, the minister was approached by one of his members. She was annoyed!
"That was a terrible sermon this morning, pastor. It was hardly worth my while coming out to church at all."
The minister smiled, "How very interesting. I have been speaking to John over there and he was saying to me that this morning's sermon was about the finest he had ever heard."
The same sermon? What was different? The message had no meaning for the one. For the other, it was the message he was wishing to hear.
John Keats writes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
Maybe the message of the gospel is also in the ear of the hearer?
