Good news won't keep! In quite another setting, Jesus seemed to know this as he said of another crowd, "they cannot be kept silent for if they should, the very stones would shout out." (Luke 19:40) When our first child was born, the news spread like wildfire. Now this child is an excited sharer as he often greets me at home with the words, "Daddy, I've got some good news ..." It may be about the most mundane matter: he went to school; he colored a picture for me; he may let me take him for an ice cream cone! Good news does ring out. The Messianic secret in Mark can't be kept. The Good News of the healer is proclaimed far and wide. Now people want to come and see.
