Ah, yes. Revenge. Life's sweetest reward. I don't recall who said this, but I have heard it a great many times.
"Under the circumstances," responded the judge, "I think you should give your husband a divorce."
"What!" yells the irate wife. "I have been with this jerk for thirty years. Now you want me to make him happy?"
Surely it must be a revengeful person who made the opening comment. It could never have been a psychologist. We recognize revenge is not one of life's sweetest anything. The opposite is true. The biblical understanding of revenge is more "He who lives by the sword shall perish by the sword ..."
Revenge (as both Elijah and Jezebel will find out) is very detrimental to life and living. It is a major factor in homicide and suicide rates. It is a leading cause in anxiety and depression. It makes us sick! Like Jezebel. Like it affected Elijah.
Who is the only One who can handle revenge and be well?
